Lewis Roca Welcomes Litigators to Denver Office

DENVER (April 18, 2022) – Lewis Roca announced Joseph Hykan, Paige Johnson and Elizabeth (Beth) Michaels have joined the firm as Associates in the Business Litigation  Practice Group in Denver.

Hykan focuses his practice on commercial litigation. He provides counsel to clients addressing commercial litigation disputes and class action in various industries including life sciences and financial services. Hykan has experience drafting memoranda and briefing for a wide variety of litigation matters including complex commercial litigation, antitrust, and class action.  

Hykan has also served as second-chair on depositions and trial examinations and has extensive experience preparing witnesses to testify at deposition and trial. While in law school, he was on the Editorial Board for the Virginia Law ReviewHykan received his J.D. from the University of Virginia Law School, Order of the Coif and his B.A. from Lewis & Clark College.

Johnson, an experienced litigator, handles a diverse array of matters including professional, product and premises liability cases, in addition to insurance coverage issues, real estate litigation, medical device and business litigation. She also advises a variety of clients, including health care systems, financial firms, insurance companies, product manufacturers, non-profits, solo-practitioners, and family-owned businesses.

Johnson also has criminal and civil trial experience and provides counsel and assistance from initial case assessment and investigation, discovery, and depositions to mediation, trial, and appeals. She has drafted and argued successful dispositive motions on behalf of her clients in both state and federal courts. She received her J.D. from the University of Louisville, Louis D. Brandeis School of Law, magna cum laude and her B.S. from the University of Louisville, cum laude.

Michaels focuses her practice on complex commercial litigation and appeals. She represents clients across industries in a variety of business disputes, and has particular experience with breach of contract cases, intellectual property matters, and securities litigation. Michaels also represents creditors in bankruptcy court and receivership proceedings and is experienced in matters involving cryptocurrency.

She has an active pro bono practice representing indigent clients in federal court through Colorado’s federal pro bono panel. Michaels also volunteers with Colorado’s federal pro se clinic, where she helps self-represented parties navigate the litigation process.

Michaels received her J.D. from the University of Colorado Law School, Order of the Coif and her B.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. After law school, she clerked for the Honorable Dennis A. Graham (Ret.) at the Colorado Court of Appeals.
