Veteran Lawyer Joins Intellectual Property Practice Group

LOS ANGELES – Veteran intellectual property lawyer John Carson has joined the Los Angeles office of Lewis Roca as Of Counsel. Carson’s practice includes all phases of IP licensing and eCommerce, patent, trademark, copyright and trade secret law.

A former trademark consultant to the California and Idaho secretaries of state, Carson is often called upon as an arbitrator and mediator, and is considered a national authority on ethics and intellectual property issues. He is AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell and named Los Angeles Trademark Lawyer of the Year in 2015 by Best Lawyers in America.

With more than 40 years of experience in intellectual property law, Carson is particularly well versed in computer hardware and software, electrochemical, optics and electromechanical systems.

Carson is noted for halting numerous intellectual property counterfeiting operations in the U.S. and internationally, managing large international trademark portfolios, successfully representing name brands in trademark infringement matters, and co-authoring several pieces of California legislation related to trademarks, trade secrets and anti-counterfeiting.

Carson is admitted to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and U.S. Supreme Court.

He is current chair of the Los Angeles County Bar Association Senior Lawyers Section and former president of the association, a member of the Federal Bar Association, member of the Central District of California Attorney Admission Fund Board, director of the U.S. Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference Historical Society, former president of the Los Angeles County Bar Foundation, former chair of the Central District of California District Court Standing Committee on Attorney Discipline and a former adjunct professor of intellectual property law at Loyola Law School in Los Angeles. Carson’s involvement in the arts and community include positions with the Huntington Library and volunteering with the Pasadena Tournament of Roses.
