Overview:

This presentation outlines the basic principles corporate counsel must be aware of when deciding whether to offer a promotion. The presence or absence of prize, chance, and consideration elements will determine whether a promotion is a sweepstakes,  a contest or an illegal lottery. Corporate counsel should be aware of state requirements and legal pitfalls associated with promotions to protect their companies from potential liability.
